Answer – If your license has expired, do not continue practicing. The Maine Real Estate Commission requires that you get an Associate Broker license to continue as a licensed real estate agent. Question – My Real Estate Sales Agent License is ABOUT to expire. What do I do?

Answer – The Maine Real Estate Commission requires that you get an Associate Broker license to continue practicing. To qualify for the Associate Broker license you must pass the Associate Broker Course with at least a 75%. After that, there is no state exam required so once you’re 30 days away from your Sales Agent license expiration you can apply for the Associate Broker license. If you can’t find an Associate Broker course to complete before your license expires but you don’t want to have any break in practicing, you can request an extension on your Sales Agent license from the Commission by filling out this form and following the instructions included.

The courses are required to be completed within the 5 years immediately preceding application for the trainee license. In addition, there is a four-hour supervisory/trainee course that is also required before working with a supervisor can begin. There must be arrangements made for the trainee to work under the direct supervision of a licensed appraiser who meets the requirements outlined at mainelegislature.org.
